The XD-structure bicycle hub base has a ring of splines approximately 8mm long. One of these splines is narrower and serves as a positioning element. Similarly, the XD-structure bicycle freewheel has a ring of grooves at the mounting point, including another narrow groove. During installation, this smaller positioning spline must be aligned with the narrow groove on the freewheel bracket and inserted before tightening the mounting screws. As the screws are tightened, the spline on the hub base will engage tightly with the groove on the freewheel, completing the installation.
